Suzuki Opens Second Biogas Plant in India to Produce Fuel for CNG Vehicles
Suzuki Motor Corporation held the opening ceremony of its second biogas plant in Gujarat, India, which will produce and sell biogas as fuel for CNG vehicles.
2 (with 5 planned)
100 tons/day
~1.5 tons (enough for 850 CNG vehicles)
What Happened
Suzuki's second biogas plant, named BANAS SUZUKI BIOGAS PLANT, is located in Bhukhala, Banaskantha district, Gujarat. It will produce biogas from cow dung for use as compressed biogas (CBG) in CNG vehicles, and also sell organic fertilizer. The plant can process up to 100 tons of cow dung per day and produce approximately 1.5 tons of biogas daily, enough to fuel about 850 CNG vehicles per day.
Suzuki signed agreement with NDDB and Banas Dairy to construct 5 biogas plants.
First biogas plant (Agthala) opened.
Opening ceremony of second biogas plant (Bhukhala).
~1.5tons/day
Equivalent to fuel for about 850 CNG vehicles per day.
Why this matters
Biogas is a carbon-neutral fuel that can be used in CNG vehicles, which make up about 20% of India's passenger car market, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting rural income through cow dung purchase.
